History[edit]

CS:GO was released on August 21st, 2012. The base version of the game was developed by Hidden Path Entertainment while Valve Corporation maintained control over post-release updates.

Gamemodes[edit]

CS:GO features seven game modes for online and offline play.

Deathmatch[edit]

Deathmatch is a versus mode featuring instant respawning with the ability to purchase any primary and secondary weapons with no regards to the money economy. Each match lasts 10 minutes and can be played on all CS:GO maps regardless of their original intended game mode. The team with the highest points wins the round. This mode was added in the January 23rd, 2013 patch update.

Arms Race[edit]

Arms Race is a gun-progression mode featuring instant respawning and many close-quarter combat situations. After registering two kills with each weapon, players receive their next one immediately as they work their way through each weapon in the game. Getting one kill with the final weapon, a golden knife, will make the final killer win the match.

Demolition[edit]

In the Demolition mode, the teams take turns attacking and defending a single bombsite in a series of maps designed for fast-paced gameplay. Players are automatically granted a starting weapon, and advance through a sequence of firearms when they register a kill. If you’re up for the challenge, you can try to get a kill each round and reach the ultimate weapons, powerful sniper rifles!

Classic Casual & Competitive[edit]

Classic modes provide 5 versus 5 competition in a best-of-30 rounds match in either Defuse or Hostage missions. In the beginning of each round, players can purchase weapons and gear with money earned from various actions from killing an opponent to completing an objective. In the Casual mode, players automatically receive body armor and defuse kits.

  • Competitive

Competitive mode puts players in a competitive game in which they can rank up or down. The player is labeled as "Unranked" until achieving their first 10 wins in the gamemode. Prior to reaching this, each two games won will give the player a temporary cooldown for 21 hours. It is in a first to 16 out of 30 rounds format (16/30.) Ranks range from Silver I which is the lowest rank to The Global Elite which is the highest rank.

  • Defuse Mode

In the Defuse mode, players compete against each other in a bomb defusal game. If time runs out prior to planting the bomb, the bomb is defused, or if all the terrorists are dead before the bomb was planted, the Counter-Terrorists win. If the bomb is successfully blown up or if all the CTs are killed prior to time running out, the Terrorists win.

  • Hostage Rescue

In Hostage Rescue, players go against each other in a hostage rescue mission. If hostages are harmed, the player who inflicted the damage loses money. CS:GO introduces the ability to carry the hostages, where older titles had the hostages simply follow the player. Once a hostage is picked up, the round receives additional time. If the hostages are rescued or if the terrorists are killed before time runs out, the Counter-Terrorists win. If the Counter-Terrorists die, the Terrorists win.

Wingman[edit]

The Wingman game mode consists of 2 versus 2 Competitive matches on modified maps with only one bombsite in a best-of-16 game. This mode was introduced in the May 23, 2017 patch update, and was permanently added in the November 13, 2017 patch update.

Danger Zone[edit]

Danger Zone is a fast-paced battle royale mode, where players can enter a match with up to 18 total players for squads and 16 for solo games, competing to be the last alive. There are currently three official maps for Danger Zone, which are Blacksite, Sirocco and Jungle. These three maps rotate the queue every 30 minutes to make sure one map isn't avoided/underplayed. The same gun mechanics are present in this game mode, however, the health is boosted to 120 and you start with only your fists and a tablet. The tablet allows you to purchase supplies that are delivered to the player via drone by using money found around the map, through optional Hostage Rescue missions, or killing other players. It also grants the ability to see the general location of every single player on the map in hexagon-shaped areas. Scattered throughout the map are various types of crates that can provide money, weapons (new melee and throwable weapons included), and gear (such as MediShots and Breach Charges). As the weapons may not come with a full magazine and reserve ammo, you can purchase additional ammunition through the tablet, or collect them from small containers around the map. The game usually lasts around 10 to 15 minutes, with the only time restraint being the Danger Zone limiting the amount of playable area on the map until one player remains. This mode was added in the December 6th, 2018 patch update.

Community Servers[edit]

Community Servers are servers owned and operated by individuals. They can contain anything from regular gameplay to modified gameplay and custom maps.
