For its additional two days in theaters on August 28 and 29, Coraline was shown in participating local theaters and global chains like AMC and Cinemark. For August 28 and 29, the movie made an additional $2.5 million.

Though Coraline made $124 million during its original theatrical run, the movie had a budget of around $60 million, so it only made a small – if any – profit the first time around. As such, its high-demand theatrical success 14 years later is a welcome surprise.

In only four days total, not to mention the fact that the showings are only on Mondays and Tuesdays, Coraline shockingly added over $7 million to its lifelong box office accumulation. Coraline’s unprecedented re-release success may also inspire Fathom Events to hold more limited theatrical returns for other dark stop-motion animated features, such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, or Guillermo del Toro’s 2022 Netflix film Pinocchio.
